Thanks to some of the big players, everyone knows a little bit about coffee. We want you to know more!

Caffeine Levels

Lighter roasts actually have more caffeine than dark roasts. Light roasts are also more acidic. So your cappucino may have less caffeine than your extra-large coffee! Surprise!

All decaffeinated coffees have trace levels of caffeine. Our decaf beans are Swiss Water Processed, using no chemicals! If you really want zero caffeine, some our our teas (most notably our Rooibos) are naturally caffeine-free.

Roasts

Cinnamon
The bean is light brown, and dry (no oil visible). The flavour is baked or bready, like toasted grain. There will likely be definite sour tones. There is not much body in cinnamon roasted coffee.

New England
A term not as frequently used as the others, though this roast is apparently common in the eastern United States. It's a little darker than the cinnamon roast, but without the grainy flavour. New England roast will still have some sour tones to it.

American, Light
Medium light brown beans. This roast is the norm for eastern USA. This roast (and sometimes cinnamon as well) is the most often used for cupping or professional tasting.

City, Medium
The colour is darker still, more of a medium brown (think chocolate). This roast is common in the western parts of the USA. This roast is a good choice to taste the differences between varietals.

Full City
Medium dark brown beans. The beans will start to show some oily drops on the surface with this roast. Full City will have caramel or chocolate undertones.

French, Espresso
Beans are starting to get dark brown, and French roasted beans are shiny with oil. There is less acidity, but with burned undertones. This roast is often used when making Espresso. Many people think this is the darkest roast available, but that's not true.

Italian, Dark French
Similar to regular French, but more so. Darker and oilier looking, and with a stronger burned flavour.

Spanish
Darkest roast of all. Colour is nearly black, and the flavour is flat with a charcoal undertone.

Drinks

Now, our goal is to serve the best cup of coffee possible. We've got a few fancy drinks, but for the most part, we want people to enjoy the coffee. Here are descriptions of our coffees!

Cappuccino
Espresso with equal parts steamed milk and foam. We can do a dry cappuccino (no steamed milk, just foam), but we really don't like to!

Latte
Espresso with with steamed milk and a tiny bit of foam (almost imperceptible!). To get a little more fancy, we can add one of our delicious syrups (rich chocolate, sugar-free chocolate, white chocolate or caramel), or use 1/2 and 1/2 instead of milk (breve).

Chai Latte
Spiced tea with steamed milk. To call it a chai latte is a bit of an oxymoron, since chai is traditionally made with milk and water, not brewed as a regualr tea. But for our purposes, we will call it a latte!

Cafe au Lait
Strong coffee with steamed milk. Not to be confused with a latte, though many coffeehouses prepare them in a similar manner!

Cafe Americano
Espresso with hot water. It has a similar strength, but different flavor than a cup of regular coffee.

Cafe con Leche
Espresso with scalded milk. We will add the sugar, if you would like (highly recommended!). The roast is slightly different than the common espresso.

Espresso
We call it Rocket Fuel. Fine ground dark roast brewed under high heat & pressure. If we do it completely perfectly, it should have a slight layer of foam!

Flavors

We do not serve flavored coffee. We will not serve flavored coffee. Ever.

But we will add syrup or sauce to your coffee! We have several for you to choose from, plus we will carry seasonally appropriate flavors as well! Not as many as some of the big chains, but enough to keep you guessing!

Milk Choices

We know that different people like different milk in their coffee. We carry whole, 2%. skim and soy! Unless you request differently, we will use 2%. Please let us know what you would like!
